What is Advanced Practice Nursing?

Advanced nursing practice refers to a field of nursing that extends and expands the boundaries of nursing’s scope of practice, contributes to nursing knowledge and promotes advancement of the profession. On the other hand, Advanced Practice Nursing refers to advanced nursing interventions that influence clinical healthcare outcomes for individuals, families and diverse populations. Advanced Practice Nursing is based on postgraduate master degree level education of a registered nurse. (see ICN 2020)

There are two roles of advanced practice nurses; clinical nurse specialist and nurse practitioners. Our special interest in this network is on nurse practitioner role, however, not all the Nordic/Baltic countries have both.
